6 AWFUL Cologne Mistakes That ALL Men Make

In 2023, you need to wear a cologne. And no, those cheap deodrants don't count. But there some common mistakes that pretty much everyone makes that is DESTROYING your scent-game, and actually making you smell worse. Let's make sure you aren't making these mistakes:

1.) Not hitting your pulse points/hitting the wrong pulse points - You’ve heard it a thousand times, spray on your pulse points. But not all pulse points were created equal. Your wrist, for example, is a bad place to spray because the fragrance will quickly rub off if you are wearing a long-sleeved shirt or it will rub off because you’re using your hands a lot. Instead, spray on the side of your neck and behind your ears.

2.) You’re not moisturising - Your skin will absorb the fragrance if you have dry skin, so using a moisturiser will prevent your fragrance from being absorbed by acting as a barrier. Use a fragrance-free moisturiser that isn’t too heavy/thick (to allow for the fragrance to project) or use vaseline. Additionally, drink more water to prevent dehydrated skin.

3.) You’re rubbing the fragrance in - Rubbing the fragrance in is destroying the top notes of your cologne, so your cologne’s longevity will be shortened. Additionally, the fragrance will be diluted because you’ve rubbed it off. Instead, pat it to distribute to other pulse points.

4.) You’re using the “cloud” method - We’ve seen this in movies way too much. They spray the fragrance in the air and then walk through it, as if the fragrance will magically stick on them. Doing this will WASTE the fragrance, because most of it will dissipate into the air or it will go into the ground.

5.) You’re wearing the wrong cologne - Not all colognes were made equal. Some colognes were made for the office, like Bleu De Chanel, and some were created for clubs (like One Million). You have to make sure that you are using the right one for the right occasion. In the office, you want to smell good but you also want to be subtle. In the club, you want it to be as loud as possible.

6.) You’re not storing them properly - One of the worst mistakes that most people make is improper storage. A lot of social media influencers store them in their bathroom or where there is a lot of light, but that’s because they want to show off their collection. You want to store them in your drawers. Essentially, any place that is cold and dark. Otherwise, the cologne will spoil.
